The bright, rainbow-colored Otomi embroidery is made in Tenango de Doria, Mexico. Legend tells that the patterns were inspired by nearby cave drawings. The devastating drought in the region in the 1960s forced the farming community to find other alternatives to make a living. It was then that Otomi embroidery became popular. It is estimated that more than 1,200 creator practice this craft, and the technique is passed down from generation to generation. Typically, the flora and fauna of the area are displayed on textiles, mostly in a symmetrical arrangement. Each embroidery can be made for years, as it is a very meticulous, dense and colorful pattern that is hand-drawn and then embroidered. They do not use a template for the motifs, so each piece is a work of art.
I was very captivated by the multitude of slightly naive, ghostly figures, so in 2017 I drew our own “home blessing” in Otomi style, which was placed on our wall by our decals. We dance with Roli in the middle, Miyoga is just hunting for a beetle above us. We are surrounded by a herd of animals watching us from behind the plants. For me, it was a memento. When I looked at it reminded me of the importance of nature, the love of animals and that we should always be cheerful.
You can change the mood of your room without painting, cleaning dirt or having to move furnitures. Our stickers are made of high quality, specifically designed, matt wall vinyl, straight from Germany.*
You can put it not only on walls, but almost on any other surfaces (metal, glass, wood, tiles…)
Important to notice, that the surface should not be dirty, dusty or greasy. The other super cool feature is, that it can be easily removed without any stain.**
* The wall vinyl is a thin, flexible material, so it can be properly smoothed down onto uneven surfaces as well, causing painted effect. Treat it gently, because it can be easily stretched out.
** We don’t take responsibility for damages caused by not properly treated surfaces (dust, greas or wall defects)
